Recent Improvements To The FreeBSD Ports Monitoring System

This talk discusses recent improvements to the FreeBSD Ports Monitoring System.

The Ports Monitoring System is a set of programs including ones to gather data about the state of the FreeBSD Ports Collection from existing web pages and then to process them into an SQLdatabase and create a set of web pages with the data analysed. The implementation described at BSDCan 2006 included such data as port building errorlogs, Problem Reports, and CVS checkins.

The major change is code to track the state of packages, not just the state of ports. This change allows FreeBSD maintainers for the first time to understand to what degree the binary packages are lagging behind the source ports, including being able to compare across OS releases and architectures. Goals of the work are to be able to highlight problems in the dependencies which then affect many other packages, and to understand the degree to which the other architectures lag the most common architecture (i386).
